I am sure most people have a crazy dealership story, but mine is going to surprise you. This is one surprise after another, so stay until the end—you won't be disappointed. It was the end of 2023, and my 2019 Audi Q7 had just two months of warranty left. I ran an OBD11 scan and found a few codes, including an intermittent transmission issue and a static code for a glass breakage sensor. I took it in for a final check, and that is where the nightmare began.
The "Old House" Assumption
For 15 years, I lived with a persistent, localized odor in my basement. I have a very sensitive nose and often smell things that others can't, so I simply chalked it up to "old house smell"—that stagnant, basement-level funk you just accept as part of the architecture. However, this winter, I started working from home in my office on the top floor, and the data points began to shift. I noticed a new, intolerable smell that peaked around 9:00 AM—roughly 2 to 3 hours after the furnace kicked on. In 2024, I decided to give my 2006 Volvo XC90 (currently pushing 262k miles!) a much-needed audio system upgrade. My goal was to install a modern Android head unit to gain features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and dedicated inputs for a backup camera and dashcam.
The main installation went smoothly, with one small exception: the radio antenna connection.
The head unit didn't come with a radio antenna. I purchased this antenna adapter from Amazon. But there was a problem. The head unit's chassis didn't have enough clearance to accept the antenna plug, so a modification was necessary.
